How To Fix A Broken Wireless Lan Card/wireless Lan Adapter

A wireless adapter card plugs into a PC Card or PCI slot in your computer system or laptop creating laptop mobility. In order to gain Internet access, you also need a wireless router to create the wireless LAN. The IEEE 802.11 group is the standard specified technology for wireless LANs. See if the wireless card became loose. If your laptop was moving around in the car or if you dropped it, the wireless card may have become disabled or loose.

Look on the front of your computer or laptop for a button or a slider indicating the wireless can be disabled and enabled. Be sure the setting is set for enabled. Check the Device Manager to see that it is set properly. Right click “My Computer,” select “Manage” and then double click “Device Manager.” Look in the panel on the right and double click “Network Adapters.” This container will open and you may notice more than one card in the list. Right click the “Wireless card” and select “Properties.”

A new window will open; choose the “General” tab to see the status of the device. Under “Device Usage,” “use this device” should be set to “enable.” If this option is set at “disabled,” use the drop down box and choose “enable.”USB WIRELESS LAN Adapter(WIRELESS USB LAN Adapter) Determine if you lose connectivity all the time or just occasionally. If it is only occasionally, there is a service called Wireless Zero Configuration, which may be causing the problem with your wireless connection. To disable it click “Start” and select “Control Panel” and “Administrative Tools.” Select “Services” and scroll down to the “Wireless Zero Configuration.” It will probably be set as “Started.” Right click and select “Stop.”

Use the Internet for a few days to see if you notice improvement. If you do, keep this option set to “disabled.” Your computer needs the Wireless Zero Configuration program running in order to make the wireless connection. There is a freeware program available, called Wireless FiXP, which will solve this problem. You can create a shortcut and put it in your Startup folder and every time you start your computer, this program will automatically start the Wireless Zero Configuration. The program will wait until your computer successfully connects to the Internet and it will then automatically shut down.PCI Wireless LAN Card(Wireless PCI LAN Cards)

One way to effectively kick people off is to discover who they are. Devices can be used to locate the source (home, apartment, etc) of a signal accessing your connection. At the same time, programs used by hackers can hack their connections as well, allowing you to monitor until info is found to identify your suspect. If either method is successful, hire a lawyer and sue the scum for all he has – including his computer.

If the wireless LAN USB adapter is what I believe it is you can use it on one of the pc's if your current LAN Modem/Router has wireless capabilities (usually will have 1 or 2 antenna) on the back. If not you would need a wireless router to have wireless capabilities.

** You will have to purchase a Wireless Router then to have the wireless capabilities you are wanting.

You can get one on-line or at almost any store that sells computer equipment (Best Buy, Office Max, etc)

i use wpa2 (AES) with a 63-character long password consisting of random upper-case, lower-case, numbers and symbols. Hopefully this will be enough to secure my network….

It's just the reciever. You don't HAVE to pay for it (you can "steal" someone elses signal if they have wireless around you), but if you want to have your home have a wireless setup, you will have to pay for that.

Remember MAC Addresses can be spoofed. But hiding the SSID, WPA2, and MAC filtering is usually more than enough to stop the script kiddie next door

is wireless lan the same thing as wifi? if so then whats so different about wifi?

  13. #13 by corpo on April 21st, 2010

@mewrox99 I agree, i always setup WPA2 and mac filter, i run alot of wireless stuff so hiding doesnt work in my case.

Its too easy to spoof MAC’s, also WEP is easily cracked, would not suggest it either.

You need a wireless router that your modem will connect to in the WAN port. Then set up a workgroup for your computer and connect to it with your PSP. I have never used a PSP so I dont know what they make you do, but if its anything like the Wii and its wireless connection app. then it shouldn't be that hard..

Also i wanted to add that most people run WRT54g linksys router, the best thing i can say is go with DDWRT firmware, gives LOADS of features that most people will probably never use.

It's a wireless network where you can have internet access without the need of internet cables attached to a modem.

I have a wireless network at home as I have two laptops share the wireless network between me and my older brother. We have a wireless DSL modem with two wireless network cards (one each every laptop).

By the way, if you have a wireless network with a wireless modem, in most wireless modems, you can connect to your wireless modem directly by going to http://192.168.1.1
