It is notorious that Microsoft Works files are not readable by other products.
To see what files OpenOffice.org can handle, use File ? Open…, and click on the arrow in the box labeled “Files of type:”. I don’t know exactly what file types Works can produce, but you can search for matches.
See http://www.oooforum.org/forum/viewtopic.phtml?t=21448 for one method of converting.
Or just save your spreadsheet from Microsoft Works into .csv format which OpenOffice.org can handle. You will have to manually re-add any coloring and special formatting.
Or you can download and install OxygenOffice Professional from http://www.download.com/OxygenOffice-Professional/3000-2064_4-10758848.html. This is a fork of OpenOffice.org which is free, like OpenOffice.org, but claims to handle Works files.

Yes you are absolutely right. The method of making money that you are referring to is called "capitalism" which is what our economy is based on. Essentially if you already have money, then you don't need to work anymore. All you have to do is either invest it into owning a business, where you in turn hire employees to work for you, or you loan your money out to people, governments, or corporations and make huge amounts of cash off of interest. Either way you do no work, yet earn far far more than anybody that does. That is how the system works.

64 bit os has had some driver issues. You need to be SURE you have driver version 6.2! You have 6.190 That has a problem!
Get the 6.2 drivers and you should work.
See this forum. – it also has a link for a working driver
http://www.fixya.com/support/t558227-realtek_rtl8168_8111_family_pci_e
If that link doesn't work use this one
http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=6&PFid=6&Level=5&Conn=4&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false#RTL8100B(L)/RTL8100C(L)/RTL8101L/RTL8139C(L)/RTL8139C(L)+/RTL8139D(L)/RTL8100(L)/RTL8130/RTL8139B(L)
Driver date 2008/11/26 much newer than what you have.
It really is a driver problem.

Many rich people supported the revolution for economic reasons. One of my ancestors was very active in financing the revolution, and you will find his signature on a lot of continental currency. He risked his life but he did it in hopes of reaping rewards himself every bit as much as for a new nation.
I don't like Hillary, not even a little, but she is correct on this one.
Those who become rich do so more by random happenstance than any other reason with the possible exception of those who disregard the law and human values. Many are good people. Had fate decreed that some other person end up with the chain of events that made them rich, that person might have been good too.
Your concept of the staggering efforts of the rich is really kind of funny.

Microsoft products will generally not work on Linux so you won't be using Visual Studio for example. The code you write in Java is identical between Windows and Linux, the difference is that you will need to become familiar with the command line functions to compile and run it. If you know Java you should be comfortable doing this anyway. I've never programmed in BASIC but I'm guessing they meant they use both languages independently rather than a mish-mash of both. The other answerer mentioned Bash which is shell script programming. This is another language all together but is a powerful tool in the Linux environment. I would recommend too to become familiar with Perl. I don't know if they use it or not but it works wonders when handling data on a Linux machine.
