It is quite a complex and seeming difficult question.
But the first reaction is who is actually in control?
Are we humans in control of Nature (meaning the whole of reality) and the larger changes in our world, or we are simply a part playing our role?
What exactly is globalization?
What we need to understand is that globalization is the current state of human evolution, it is not simply an economical term.
As you clearly understand based on your question, we are completely interconnected, and also interdependent, regardless of where we live, and at what social state we are in.
This is a relatively new state, that we have to get used to, and this new state requires a completely new attitude and behavior on our part, as our previous selfish one is now leading to destruction of the whole system.
And here comes the answer to you main question: it is both.
But the force does not come from one human against the other, but from Nature's part against humans.
So our choice is the following:
either we understand what global means in our world, and how we need to adjust to live in such a closed, integral system in harmony, or we will be forced to do so by Nature.

you can get something with less features but more responsive in linux, with the ability to have multiple keyboards as well, or, just the ability of having more than 1 user on more than 1 monitor at the same time. its called mpx, its free, and developed by 1 person. what does that show about microsoft?
